Latin American MobileMonday chapters set up cooperation

momo_shadowedA group of founders of the MoMo chapters in Latin America agreed to set up regional cooperation in a meeting last week (03/24/2009) in Sao Paulo. Some chapters participated on-site, and some via conference call.

The established chapters of Bogota, Buenos Aires and Caracas were joined by chapters in process of formation from Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Mexico City and Medellin. There are also chapters being established in Santiago de Chile, Quito, Guatemala and Montevideo.

“As a result of that meeting, we concluded some immediate actions, and other actions that will require further interaction, in order to come up with a commonly agreed position, reports Nidal Barake, MoMo Caracas.

The immediate actions taken include:

  • Set up of a regional portal that will include all Latin American chapters. Each chapter will have its own sub-site, following a common template. Also, in the phase 2 there will be a newsletter in Spanish and Portuguese with main regional and global news. The responsible for this project are MoMo Buenos Aires, MoMo Rio de Janeirio, and MoMo Mexico City.
  • Assess the feasibility of a regional event, that will be done on a yearly basis, recognizing sponsors, chapters and industry leaders. The responsible for this project are MoMo Sao Paulo, MoMo Rio de Janeirio, and MoMo Miami)
  • There will be a team in charge of setting fundraising guidelines, plans and packages for both regional and local sponsors. The responsible for this project are MoMo Buenos Aires, MoMo Rio de Janeirio, MoMo Mexico City, MoMo Caracas and MoMo Sao Paulo.
  • There will be a disucssion group on NING for Latam chapters, set by MoMo Buenos Aires
  • There will be a governing body. The structure, responsibilities, election process, and governance terms will be discussed in Ning.
