AdMob set to serve 100 billionth mobile ad this weekend

admob_logoEMEA boss hails mobile as a mainstream advertising medium.

At some point this weekend, mobile advertising network AdMob will serve its 100 billionth mobile ad, the company says.

Not bad going, given that the company was founded in 2006. It’s seen sharp growth in the last year thanks to rising mobile internet usage, and its expansion into mobile application advertising.

In fact, AdMob says since June 2008, monthly ad requests across its network have more than doubled to 8.3 billion.

“100 billion ads served is an exciting milestone for AdMob as a company, but also testament to the fact that the mobile phone is now becoming a mainstream advertising medium,” says VP and EMEA MD Thomas Schulz.

“For marketers, it’s the perfect opportunity to grab consumers’ attention with interesting and relevant advertising. For mobile web publishers and developers, now is the ideal time to monetise mobile traffic and applications, and drive discoverability.”

Earlier this week, analysis by Nielsen claimed that AdMob is the third largest mobile ad network in the US, behind only Millennial Media and AOL’s Third Screen Media.
